Home alone one weekend, I logged in for the first time, created a character, and ventured into the virtual reality that is Second Life—a massively multiplayer online role playing game where people use animated avatars to digitally socialize. There I explored secret islands, browsed pixelated shopping malls, crashed private parties, and even attended a 3-D Burning Man festival. Interactions with other players were so fantastical that I captured screen shots to prove it all really happened. For my presentation, I will show and tell how my alter ego learned a valuable real-world lesson while on an amazingly artificial adventure.
