For 500 years curlers have enjoyed their winter sport of granite, ice, liquor, sweeping and strategy. But only just recently did we learn why the curling stone curls.
If you spin a sliding, 42 pound, granite curling stone clockwise it curls right. If you spin it counterclockwise it curls left. Simple Physics tells us that it should not do that! Tonight we unlock this mystery of ice and granite, and we celebrate the glorious, cool, community sport of curling.
